Mermaid Books & Folklore Plus an Update on my Show
One of the books that I’m most proud of The Mermaid & the Apothecary, was released last year by myself. The best part-my mother did the illustrations.
This children’s book is based on the true story of the Charleston mermaid riot that took place in 1850. This book is very close to my heart and one I’ve worked tirelessly on for two years.
But this isn’t the first mermaid book that I’ve written. I released one a year or two earlier called Let’s Search for Mermaids, which is another story I wrote based on a fictional adventure of my children. In fact there’s a series of books called the “Let’s Go” series that I had written about them when they were younger.
Mermaids have always been a fascination of mine. Not just because of “The Little Mermaid” though. The horror stories and downright scary tales about mermaids are what captivated me. As a lover of the original Grimm’s Fairy Tales, I’ve loved reading their versions growing up.
If you’ve followed my Youtube page, you can check out some other mermaids that I’ve discussed over the years. There are currently videos about North Carolina mermaid lore, Charleston mermaid lore, Kei Island mermaid, Cymbee spirits, and a cool story from Alabama. If you want to view the playlist, go here.
If you know about stories from the Caribbean and others, you’d know mermaids were to be avoided at all costs. Not some beautiful creature to love and dote on.
I’m also excited to share all of this mermaid lore, because the first episode of my show Unknown with SCEtv will about mermaids!!! The show was originally supposed to air in October, and I just received the first preview on Monday, so we will need to reshoot some things. That’s show business though! But as soon as I get a new release date, I’ll let you guys know.
